I’ve been blogging for about two months now, and here’s what I’ve already discovered: coming up with blog topics on a regular basis is not for the faint of heart. I mean, sure, I usually write about a whole mix of things—animals, the randomness of daily life, the gym (because nothing humbles a person faster than walking back into a gym after some time off). But still, keeping the ideas flowing can feel like wringing water from a sponge that’s already dry.
This past weekend, though, I stumbled onto an unexpected “topic”: doing absolutely nothing. My husband and son were off hunting, which meant the house was blissfully quiet. You’d think I’d attack the mountain of projects I’ve been saving for “someday”—but spoiler alert—I didn’t.
Instead, I did something I haven’t done in years: I sat around. A lot. At first, I felt a twinge of guilt, like I should be checking something off my list. But then I thought, you know what? Whatever, girl. Just do you.
Don’t get me wrong—I wasn’t a complete couch ornament. I went to the gym, took the dogs for a walk, vacuumed, did some light cleaning, and even managed a nap or two (which, honestly, might have been my proudest achievement). Nothing earth-shattering, but honestly, it felt kind of perfect.
We live life like we’re always sprinting to catch the next bus—running, rushing, juggling. But sometimes the best thing you can do is stop chasing, sit in your favorite chair, and let yourself just…be. No guilt. No pressure. Just breathing.
So, while I didn’t conquer my to-do list, I did give myself permission to slow down. And maybe that’s the most important project I could’ve finished this weekend. ❤️💜💛
